Overview
The Micbooster Clippy XLR EM272 is an omnidirectional electret condenser microphone based on the Primo EM272 capsule, terminated to XLR with integrated powering. It offers low self-noise and a flat frequency response, making it suitable for ambient capture, effects recording, and measurement applications where accurate off-axis response and low-noise performance are critical.
Its small clip body also makes it an excellent actor lav: clip it to wardrobe and run it into a phantom-powered recorder input, or plug it into the RodeLink Newsshooter Kit to go wireless.

Both mics use the same low-noise Primo EM272 omni capsule and plug straight into a phantom-powered XLR input. The Clippy puts that capsule on a slim cable with a clip, so it can be worn on talent as an actor lav, hidden on set as a plant mic, or rigged as a spaced stereo pair.

Best for
Choose the Micbooster Clippy XLR for
- Actor lavs, wired into a recorder or wireless through the RodeLink Newsshooter Kit
- Plant mics hidden in cars, on sets and on props
- Spaced A/B stereo ambience with a pair of Clippys
- Natural-sounding interviews where a low-noise omni suits the room
Choose the Micbooster Pluggy XLR for
- Instant ambience and room tone, plugged straight into a recorder
- Plant mics where there is no cable to hide
- Stereo arrays on a bar or a recorder’s XLR inputs
- Effects and Foley with the same quiet EM272 capsule
- Clip the microphone to a rigid, quiet support and isolate it from cable movement, handling, and windscreen contact.
- Use matched placement and equal cable paths when pairing two Clippys for A/B or other spaced stereo techniques.
- Set the recorder for phantom power and leave headroom for sudden effects, even when recording in 32-bit float.
- Use suitable foam or fur outdoors and record at least one minute of clean ambience for edits and noise matching.
- Worn as an actor lav, tape a small loop of cable just below the clip so clothing movement doesn’t travel down the cable, and keep the capsule clear of fabric rub.
