Overview

The Samsung T7 Shield is a pocket-sized NVMe SSD wrapped in a rubberized, IP65-rated shell. Over USB 3.2 Gen 2 it reads at up to 1,050 MB/s and writes at up to 1,000 MB/s, so card offloads, backups and edit-ready transfers move at full speed.

It works with Mac, Windows and Android devices and with cameras that record to external USB-C drives, such as the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2. Both USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB-A cables are included, so it connects to new and older machines alike.

  • Use the USB-C to USB-C cable on modern ports for full speed; the USB-C to USB-A cable is there for older machines.
  • Use offload software with checksum verification, and keep footage on at least two drives until it is safely backed up.
  • Eject the drive in the operating system before unplugging it.
  • Secure the drive and its cable when it is mounted on a rig, so a snag cannot pull it loose mid-take.
